They tortured him for 13 days until he made a false statement declaring that he authored articles exposing crimes committed by the domestic security division of Shantou City.
During his first appearance in the Chenghai District Court in Shandou City on September 11, 2013, Mr. Wang told the officials how the police had extracted the false statement through torture. However, the court ignored the information. After the second trial on October 15, 2013, the court sentenced Mr. Wang to 3.5 years in prison on November 1, 2013.
