Taiwan: 17,000 in Taichung Support Criminal Complaints Against Jiang Zemin

August 29, 2015

(Minghui.org) In July and August, more than 17,000 residents in Taichung, Taiwan signed a criminal report form urging the Chinese authorities to bring former Communist Party leader Jiang Zemin to justice.

Such efforts echo the recent flood of lawsuits against Jiang filed by 157,000 Falun Gong practitioners in China and overseas for launching and directing the violent persecution of Falun Gong. The number of lawsuits has steadily increased since May.

According to Chinese law, a criminal report form signed and dated by any individual with knowledge of a crime constitutes a criminal complaint that can be submitted to the Supreme People’s Procuratorate and Court.

The signatures in Taichung come from those in all walks of life, including government officials, city council members, lawyers, teachers, and doctors.

City Council Member: Signature Campaign Will Raise Awareness of the Persecution

He Mingjie, a Taichung city council member signed the criminal report form and said that the city council has passed a resolution condemning the persecution of Falun Gong. “No matter where you are, no matter what you believe, everybody should have the basic human rights,” he said.

“The signature campaign will raise the public awareness of the persecution,” he added. “I believe that more and more people will join the support for the peaceful resistance.”

He Mingjie, the city council member of Taichung, with the criminal report form he signed to condemn Jiang Zemin for his crimes in the persecution of Falun Gong.

Huang Guoshu, a member of the Legislative Yuan, heard about the lawsuits against Jiang and signed the criminal report form at a Falun Gong event.

City council member Zeng Chaorong ran into Falun Gong’s signature campaign booth at a tourist location. He said to practitioners, “I’ve always supported Falun Gong.” Mr. Zeng, along with his his companions, including several lawyers and doctors, signed the forms.

Shi Chunfu, the deputy chief of the city department of cultural affairs, signs a criminal report form against Jiang Zemin.

Gao Lianyong, a local artist, signs a criminal report form.

Taichung Resident: “I admire Falun Gong”

Mr. Lin, a local businessman, often visits mainland China and knows well about the persecution of Falun Gong there. He told practitioners that he often tries to convince his Chinese friends to quit the Communist Party.

“I even bought hundreds copies of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party for my Chinese friends. When they come to Taiwan, I always take them to Falun Gong’s booths at the tourist spot, and tell them to read your materials,” he said to a practitioner.

“I really admire Falun Gong, especially those at the tourist spots trying to tell people about the persecution,” said Mr. Lin after signing the criminal report form.

Former 610 Office Head Li Dongsheng Indicted

August 29, 2015 | By He Yu

(Minghui.org) The Supreme People’s Procuratorate in China announced on August 21 that former 610 Office head Li Dongsheng has been indicted for bribery.

Although he has several titles, Chinese media publicized his role in the 610 Office, a secretive organization that directs the persecution of Falun Gong, after he was taken down in December 2013.

Appointed deputy head of the 610 Office when the organization was formed in 1999, Li was also a deputy director of China Central Television (CCTV). In that role, he was in charge of the nationwide propaganda campaign againt Falun Gong to garner public support for its suppression. After Liu Jing retired in October 2009, Li was appointed by Zhou Yongkang as Deputy Minister of Public Security and was in charge of the 610 Office.

As a key player in the organization that drives the nationwide suppression of Falun Gong, Li has a track record of stirring up hate propaganda and violence against innocent practitioners.

Government-Directed Campaign of Slander

Although Jiang Zemin ordered Falun Gong banned in July 1999, it was the nationwide propaganda campaign that turned the public against peaceful practitioners.

Li instructed CCTV to play seven hours of defamatory programs every day. These programs attack Falun Gong’s founder Mr. Li Hongzhi and claim practitioners kill or commit suicide using fabricated footage.

One example is “Focus,” a popular CCTV primetime program about current affairs. For six and a half years, between July 21, 1999 and late 2005, “Focus” featured 102 anti-Falun Gong episodes, according to a 2013 report published by the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG). Between July and December 1999 alone, there were 39 anti-Falun Gong episodes, according to the same report.

Another example is CCTV News, broadcast daily at 7:00 p.m. Considered a staple news program, it is the primary news source for the Chinese, whether they live in the city or the countryside. Li extended the program from 30 minutes to 45 minutes to ensure that sufficient anti-Falun Gong content was incorporated into the news.

These defamatory reports were picked up and spread to newspapers and radios by Xinhua News Agency and disseminated overseas through China News Service (CNS), Hong Kong China News Agency (CNA), and Chinese diplomatic agencies.

Second Wave of Defamation

Li’s efforts were very effective in swaying public opinion. In July 2000, he was promoted to deputy director of China’s State Administration of Radio Film and Television (SARFT).

Meanwhile, the persecution began to lose momentum. The brutality practitioners suffered for their belief made many people reconsider the legitimacy of the suppression.

Instructed by Ze Qinghong, head of the Organization Department (1999-2002), and Luo Gan, secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee (1998-2007), Li orchestrated the “Tiananmen Square self-immolation“, pushing the propaganda to a new level.

The incident on Tiananmen Square was quickly identified by the Washington Post and numerous overseas organizations as a hoax. The event was also covered by the award-winning documentary False Fire.

But inside China, the fabrication quickly spread–with devastating consequences. Because the staged self-immolation took place the day before the Chinese New Year and included a 12-year-old girl and her mother, the TV program was viewed by a huge audience. The report was carried in newspapers and on television and was even included in school textbooks. The sympathy people had for Falun Gong practitioners turned to anger and hatred.

The popular CCTV program “Focus” acted as a catalyst to fuel hatred against Falun Gong practitioners. In 2001 alone, 39 anti-Falun Gong episodes were aired on the program.

As tens of millions of Falun Gong practitioners suffered tremendously for their belief, Li Dongsheng was promoted in May 2002 to deputy minister of the Propaganda Department. As his power increased, his campaign of propaganda was further intensified with violence and torture.

The Persecution Continues

Sixteen years into the suppression, the brutality done to Falun Gong practitioners is astonishing, from arrest, detention, torture, and incarceration in mental hospitals to sexual abuse, forced labor, and live organ harvesting.

Li’s downfall and indictment is not accidental; many high-ranking officials who have actively persecuted Falun Gong have met similar fates, from Bo Xilai and Zhou Yongkang to Xu Caihou.

Canadian MP Rob Anders said that the justice system will eventually “turn on those people who were the most corrupt and villainous and tyrannical and oppressive with regard to Falun Gong.” He said that those who were most heavily involved in persecuting Falun Gong, “are the ones who overstepped the bounds of decency the most.”

He further explained, “They didn’t just take money. They took dignity, they took integrity, they stole traditions away—they did all these things. They committed incredible human rights violations.” Mr. Anders said he believes that the perpetrators will be held accountable when the communist regime starts to collapse.

U.S. Congressman Chris Smith, a senior member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and chairman of its Global Human Rights and International Organization Subcommittee, said he supported the wave of criminal complaints against Jiang being filed by the Chinese.

During a congressional hearing on June 25, 2015, he said, “The courage and the bravery of the Chinese people that keep filing these complaints, that keeps them coming out pushing for democracy and accountability on the Party and the government, is awe-inspiring, because so many of them… are punished in some way, and yet they can persist.”

“The Western world, the free world anywhere in the world, should be having their backs, every day of the week and 24/7, to say, ‘We stand with you and we stand with the suppressed,’” Smith added.

More Chinese People Are Realizing That Justice Is On the Side of Falun Gong

August 28, 2015 | By a practitioner from Shandong Province, China

(Minghui.org) I went to a photocopy shop to make a copy of my criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, the former Communist Party leader. When I entered the store, Zhang, one of the employees, was talking with my brother’s coworkers, Wang and Hu (aliases).

Zhang took my USB flash drive to make the copies. Wang grabbed the first page out of the copier and noticed that it was an indictment letter. He asked if I was suing Jiang Zemin, and Hu burst out saying that I was a Falun Gong practitioner.

“Yes, I want to sue Jiang,” I said. “He is very evil, which he has shown by the persecution of Falun Gong. He initiated the persecution. He can’t get away with it.”

“Actually I know this practice is very good.” responded Hu. “Falun Gong teaches people to do good deeds and to improve their character. I have tried the practice.”

I told them that Falun Gong teaches people to practice the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

Wang asked why practitioners surrounded the Chinese Central Government compound in 1999.

“It was a very peaceful appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong,” I said. “Jiang was jealous because the cultivation practice had grown to about one hundred million practitioners in just seven years.”

I then told them that everything that the Chinese government published and broadcast about the practice of Falun Gong was fabricated. Hu said that he had given up the practice because the regime’s leaders told the Chinese people to do so.

“People in more than 100 countries now practice Falun Gong. If the persecution had not occurred, you would most likely still be practicing it. For that, you should also sue Jiang.”

Wang and Hu agreed that Jiang should be put on trial and that he is very evil. They told me that they support practitioners in their efforts to sue him.

Wang wondered if the case against Jiang had merit and could be won.

“Don’t worry about it. We will win. Justice is with Falun Gong practitioners and good people worldwide,” I said. “More than 140,000 people have already sued Jiang, as of today. More and more practitioners are working on their complaints against Jiang.”

CEO: How I Survived a Fatal Accident

August 26, 2015 | By Ar Qiang

(Minghui.org) The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has deceived people with propaganda against Falun Dafa for 16 years. When they learn the facts, many people choose to support Falun Dafa. Their courage in supporting the innocent in the face of this harsh suppression, often brings blessings and miracles. Below is a story that occurred to the CEO of a foreign firm last summer.

A Card vs. a Pendant

Last year I went to a fortune teller and he told me that my life may be in danger. Following his advice, I bought a pendant with the image of a deceased CCP leader and hung it next to my car’s rear view mirror.

One day a friend saw it. He is a Falun Dafa practitioner and often talked to me about the practice and explained why the Party spread hate-propaganda, including the staged self-immolation incident. He said, “We both know Mao and the Party have harmed a large number of Chinese through its political campaigns, such as the Cultural Revolution. The Party itself could face serious consequences for damaging traditional culture and Chinese moral values. Tell me, how could such a dead person do you any good?” He asked.

What he said did make sense. He recommended that I remove the pendant and carry a card with me instead. “Keeps these words in your mind and say them when your life is in danger, you will be saved,” he said.

A typical truth-clarification card made by practitioners in China. The words say:“Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good. Repeat these words sincerely and your life will be saved when in danger”

We talked about this several times. I followed his advice, and I accepted the card and quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) organizations.

Flat Tire

Then a miracle happened.

The temperature was high last year before noon on June 16, close to 104 degree (or 40 Celsius). I was driving on a highway at about 80 miles (or 130 km) per hour. I had not quite recovered from a minor fever the day before. Nonetheless I kept driving because I had to return to work.

About 20 miles after I entered the highway, there was suddenly a loud noise. Before I knew what happened, the vehicle started to tumble wildly like a roller coaster. Realizing I had a flat tire, I stepped on the brake. With that, I totally lost control of the vehicle. The last thing I remember seeing was the highway guardrail.

I did not know how long I lay there before I regained consciousness. A burning smell filled my nostrils. Opening my eyes, I noticed my glasses were gone. The left side of my head was covered with blood, and the safety belt restrained me tightly.

As soon as I loosened the safety belt, I fell—it turned out the vehicle was upside down. I lay there for a while trying to figure out what happened. Looking around, I saw blood and smashed glass. I realized I survived the accident.

Card in a Wallet

I made my way out of the vehicle and found myself next to the center guardrail. It seemed my vehicle was bounced across the highway from side to side, turned upside down, and then slid forward. Scattered behind it was a trail of my things: a towel, cologne, and other small objects.

My shoes were gone and the ground was too hot to walk on. I tiptoed over to grab a towel and wiped the blood off my head. Thinking the vehicle might explode, I moved away from it. To avoid traffic that drove around my Jeep, I went to the side even further.

I waved to passing cars for help, but no one stopped. I reached down for my phone, but it was gone. Surprised, I noticed my wallet was in my back pocket. I clearly remembered putting it on the car seat—how could it end up in my pocket?

Opening the wallet, I saw the little card my friend had given me. Immediately I knew I survived the accident because of the card. And I was very grateful to Mr. Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Dafa.

You Are a Lucky Man

Finally a truck stopped. The driver talked with me and called the police, who came 10 minutes later. An officer handed me a phone to call my parents. An ambulance came. Before we left, my father arrived. He was terrified, but then excited to see me safe.

My father checked the vehicle and discussed the accident with the police. My Jeep was totaled: the body smashed, top caved in, tires damaged, all six airbags popped open, and the vehicle had slid nearly 60 yards.

“You are a lucky man,” one officer said to me, “In an accident like this, you could have died many times.” But I did not. Fortunately the drivers seat was intact and it protected me like a shield, the officer said.

The ambulance took me to a nearby hospital, where I underwent ultrasounds on my head, chest, and stomach. I was not injured at all. The doctor said, “You only have minor scratches on your head and arms. We will give you medicine to stop the bleeding, plus antibiotics, and then you are free to go.”

I worked at home for two or three days and then went back to work. I explained to my surprised coworkers how a little card miraculously changed a person’s fate.

Postal Worker Listens to the Facts and Accepts Our Lawsuit Documents Against Jiang

August 25, 2015 | By a Falun Dafa practitioner from Shandong Province

(Minghui.org) Today, two fellow practitioners and I went to the local post office to mail our lawsuit documents against the former Communist Party leader Jiang Zemin. The two of them went inside to mail their letters while I remained outside to send righteous thoughts.

A short while later, one of them called me inside. The postal worker had refused to accept our letters.

She said, “We received a notice from the police station to call them about the letters addressed to the Supreme People’s Court or the Supreme People’s Procuratorate. The police warned us that whoever approved the letters for mailing would be legally responsible.”

The three of us told the worker about the persecution of Falun Gong and why we were filing criminal complaints against Jiang Zemin. However, she still refused to accept the letters.

We were not discouraged. “Suing Jiang Zemin is a right of the citizens,” we reminded her. “It is the post office’s duty to accept and mail our letters. The policemen are breaking the law by forbidding us to send letters. They don’t know what is right and wrong. We know it is Jiang’s group who are trying to stop people from sending the lawsuits.”

We patiently told her that there had already been more than 120,000 Falun Dafa practitioners in over 30 countries who have filed criminal complaints against Jiang Zemin, who orchestrated the violent suppression of Falun Dafa practitioners. “We are not doing this for ourselves. Falun Dafa is the Buddha Fa. Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance are universal values. Jiang’s lies have turned many people hostile towards the Buddha Fa. Committing crimes against the Buddha Fa will result in heaven’s punishment when the time comes. Jiang has, as a matter of fact, persecuted all Chinese people.”

One of the practitioners told her about how her healthy drastically improved after she began practicing Falun Dafa.

We had no objective other than to let her know the truth. We continued to explain while she listened quietly. Slowly, she gave our letters the stamp of approval and handed us the receipts.

We were touched, and one of my fellow practitioners burst into tears.

“We thank you for making the right choice out of morality and conscience,” I said to her. “We are deeply moved by your courage. You will be blessed.” We finally explained to her the importance of quitting the Chinese Communist Party and its youth organizations. She agreed to withdraw her membership in the Young Pioneers.

A Changing Tide: Many Police Officers Have Stopped Persecuting Falun Gong Practitioners

August 24, 2015 | By a correspondent from Hebei Province, China

(Minghui.org) On July 11, 2015, two Falun Gong practitioners were clarifying the facts to people on the street. They met an unfriendly bystander but did not permit the stranger to deter them from talking to people. However, a police vehicle came by and the police proceeded to search their bags.

The two practitioners were carrying publications of Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party and Shen Yun DVDs. They were taken to the police station. One officer said, “Sit down and rest.” The officer who was watching them left. Another came and asked, “How old are you? Where do you live?” Seeing the Shen Yun DVDs he asked, “What is this?” The practitioners said, “These are wonderful performance arts DVDs.” The women did not reveal their names and addresses, nor did the officer ask any further questions or document anything. He left after a few minutes.

The two practitioners sat in meditation and sent forth righteous thoughts. They sat for over an hour until dinner time but nobody paid attention to them. One of the practitioner said, “We need to go home and have dinner.” But nobody responded. Then it time for the restroom. An officer said, “There is no restroom in here, it’s outside.” Apparently, he was hinting for them to leave.

So, the two practitioners left the police station. They returned the next day for their bicycles.

Many policemen have stopped persecuting Falun Gong practitioners and many have become supportive. It is becoming even more apparent now, with the trend of suing Jiang Zemin.

Groundswell to Bring Jiang to Justice Causing Chinese Police to Rethink Persecution

August 24, 2015

(Minghui.org) The current wave of criminal complaints filed against Jiang Zemin, former Chinese Communist Party leader who launched the persecution of Falun Gong, has prompted some policemen in China to think twice about their actions when interacting with Falun Gong practitioners. Instead of arbitrarily following the established persecution policies, many are now examining their own conscience and thinking for themselves. Below are three such instances that took place in Hebei, Shandong, and Heilongjiang Provinces.

Policeman Returns Extorted Money

In an extraordinary move, a local police officer in Yanshan County, Hebei Province returned 4,000 yuan extorted from two families of Falun Gong practitioners on August 11, 2015.

After two practitioners, Liu Aihua and Liu Guifang, were arrested on February 26, 2015 for talking to people about the persecution, they were released on condition that their families each submit 2,000 yuan as a “deposit” to guarantee that the practitioners would not leave home to expose the persecution again in the month of February.

Yet after the month was up, the police refused to return the money and said that the amount would only be returned if the practitioners came in person and submitted their fingerprints.

Liu Aihua then visited the Mengdian Police Station with two other practitioners. Du Zhiqiang, the police officer who arrested them, was not present. The three practitioners told the other policemen about the current groundswell to bring Jiang Zemin to justice. They recognized another police officer who was involved in persecuting practitioners and demanded that he return illegally-confiscated personal property.

The policeman responded, “I’m only a soldier, a pawn on the chess board. I have taken nothing and I know nothing.” But his voice revealed his misgivings.

The three practitioners then asked the receptionist to relay the message to Du Zhiqiang that they had stopped by to ask for their money back.

Du himself came to the practitioners’ homes that same afternoon and returned the 4,000 yuan.

Police No Longer Intimidate so Blantantly

More recently, local government agents and police officers no longer harass and intimidate as relentlessly as they used to.

Two strangers visited practitioner Chen Songkui in Jiaozhou City, Shandong Province, in early August. They asked Mr. Chen, “Did you mail a criminal complaint against Jiang?”

“Yes, I did,” answered the 77-year-old Mr. Chen.

“Don’t leave home,” one of the men said. “Just watch TV at home.”

Mr. Chen’s son came out to the living room and asked, “Where are you from?”

The men admitted that one of them was from the government and the other from the local police station.

Upon repeated inquiries from Mr. Chen’s son, one man said that his name was Zhao Hui and the other Shi Shulin. They prepared to leave immediately after they stated their names. “But don’t leave home,” they warned again.

“Under what rights do you order people not to leave their own home?” Mr. Chen’s son demanded to know.

The two men hurried to their car and drove off hastily.

Police Officers Release a Practitioner Who Filed Lawsuit against Jiang

Two plainclothes policemen came looking for Ms. Wang Huijun at her son’s home on August 20, 2015. They ordered her to go to the local police station to answer a few questions and allowed her son to accompany her.

The two men asked her if she had sued Jiang Zemin, then demanded to know where she printed and mailed the criminal complaint, and who helped her put the complaint together.

“Yes, I sued Jiang Zemin,” Ms. Wang said. “Because he persecuted me. He’s no longer the head of the state. As for your other questions, I’m not going to answer them. It’s not good for you to know that information.”

She added that many high-ranking Party officials had received karmic retribution, the oriental expression for “what goes around comes around.” Even though corruption is always the official “crime” for their being taken down by the authorities, these people have all been instrumental in the persecution of Falun Gong.

Ms. Wang spoke to the policemen for over an hour and told them personal stories, including how she recovered from many illnesses after she took up the practice of Falun Gong.

The policemen asked Ms. Wang to give her fingerprints and sign several documents, to which she firmly refused.

The officers finally agreed to release Ms. Wang.
