The Persecution I Witnessed in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp

January 12, 2013 | By a practitioner in Liaoning Province

(Minghui.org) The Third Team of the First Division in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in Liaoning Province is an evil place that specifically persecutes male Falun Gong practitioners. I would like to share the brutal torture I witnessed when I was detained at the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp to let the world’s people know about the evil nature of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners and to call for justice.

Three guards including Gao Hongchang and Yu Jiang used 800,000-volt electric batons on a practitioner with the surname of Yu on the night of October 1, 2008. In great pain, the practitioner crawled around on the ground. The guards shouted as they shocked him, “Do you agree?” The practitioner screamed in pain. His head and face were covered in blood, and blood stains were left on the ground wherever he crawled. Afterward he was locked up and tortured in a cell for several months. Later, when I saw him again he was doing forced labor.

When practitioners refused to write a guarantee statement, the guards used 800,000-volt electric batons to shock them or hang them up with only the tip of their toes touching the floor. They would be hung up for several days and nights.

After a while, the guards gave out a survey that slandered Dafa and forced all detained practitioners to answer. After they collected the survey, if they found someone still said Falun Dafa is good, they immediately tortured him. Not long afterward, we would hear the practitioner screaming from the torture. For the newly detained practitioners, the guards immediately used electric batons to force them to sign to give up their belief. If they refused, they would be shocked.

One day, when three newly arrested 50- to 60-year-old practitioners shouted, “Falun Dafa is good!” guard Yu Jiang and several others immediately shocked the practitioners’ mouths and faces with electric batons, leaving them covered in black marks. Afterwards their mouths were swollen and they could not close them for several days.

Practitioner Mr. Sun Yi was forced to stand in the hall facing the wall for over ten hours every day for over a month. Another practitioner named Li Hailong suffered a mental collapse after several rounds of torture and urinated in his pants. A practitioner with the surname of Wang was locked in a dark cell for several months and also collapsed mentally. A practitioner named Sun Shushen became crippled after several rounds of torture.

In 2012, there were over 158 practitioners detained in the Third Brigade who were all forced to do slave labor. When they could not finish the work, their work hours were extended. At night, after finishing their tasks, they were forced to sit on hard boards for three hours and read out loud the CCP’s slander of Falun Dafa.

Practitioners were not allowed to use the toilet between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. As a result, many practitioners suffered from urinary disorders.

One day, guard Li found that 60-year-old practitioner Mr. Li Zheng was wearing a pair of cloth shoes his family had sent him instead of wearing the prison shoes. He came up immediately and slapped Mr. Li in the face. The guards force practitioners to buy things from their own prison stores so they make money from practitioners.

The most evil guards that persecute practitioners are Gao Hongchang and Yu Jiang. Gao Hongchang used to be the team leader and instigated other guards and inmates to torture practitioners. In 2010, he was promoted to the head of the First Division of the camp with more power and became even more fierce in instigating other perpetrators to torture practitioners.

This is what I witnessed of the brutal persecution of practitioners by the guards. This is only a drop in the ocean of the persecution that takes place at the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp.

Shen Yun Sprinkles a Little Bit of Heaven On Theatergoers In Dallas, Texas (Photos)

(Minghui.org) Audience members at the Winspear Opera House in Dallas, Texas were treated to two heavenly shows staged by the world renowned, New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts on Jan 2 – 3, 2013.

Shen Yun Artistically Touching, Says Professor

Audience member Mrs. Nancy Arnold, a technical instructor, had been wanting to see Shen Yun after seeing it advertised in various cities and countries that she had traveled to.

“But every time, I leave [the city] before the show starts so I haven’t been able to [see it],” she said.

“So here I am, and I’m delighted, absolutely delighted, to be here. And it’s everything I expected, it’s just beautiful,” she enthused. She bought tickets as a Christmas gift to herself.

Having a background in theater and pageantry, Mrs. Arnold, enjoyed the wide variety of elements that Shen Yun has to offer, including classical Chinese dance, bel canto-style solo vocalists, a stunning digitized backdrop, and a live orchestra.

“I love the way that they incorporate the [backdrop] and bring it right down into [the scene],” she said. “You’ve got the characters floating off … then coming right back.”

Mrs. Arnold was referring to Shen Yun’s digital, animated backdrop which allows performers to appear on screen one moment and on stage the next. With the use of technology, Shen Yun’s designers transport the audience into a world of vivid scenery, where heaven and earth are one.

“That’s absolutely amazing when they just pop up, and it’s like ‘Oh!’ The first time they did it, it was like ‘Oh, where did you come from?’ And I loved it. I absolutely loved it,” she said.

“I Was Just Blown Away,” Says Professor

Another audience member, professor Vincent Curtis Hunter, who was visiting from Connecticut, exclaimed, “I was just blown away by it [the show],” adding “The color, the movements themselves—and it’s a direct hit, it’s not analytic. I can’t articulate why it’s hitting the buttons the way it does, but it hits the buttons, it moves you.”

“I was in tears twice during the first part,” Mr. Hunter said. “It just rattles you.”

He appreciated the spiritual aspect of Shen Yun noting that over the 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture, many people and countless groups throughout the history of China “all discovered the transcendent in some way. They all quested for connection to divinity,” he said, adding, “This is theology encapsulated.”

“[It] is fundamental. It’s wonderful,” Mr. Hunter said.

Shen Yun “Beautifully Done,” Says Scholar

Vicki Barkley and Hal Barkley attend Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Winspear Opera House in Dallas on Jan. 3.

Dr. Hal Barkley, a scholar and director of the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development at Southern Methodist University, attended the show accompanied by his wife.

“We enjoyed it immensely! It was beautifully done,” Dr. Barkley said.

His wife, Vicki, an art teacher, said that she thoroughly enjoyed the refreshing “mixture of technology and fabulous costume design intertwined with what you would expect—the music and dance.”

“I was expecting something more sedate and it was very exciting to watch!” she explained.

“I would come back again. It was great,” she said.

The suppression of spiritual belief in China was also depicted in a few dance sets, which Mrs. Barkley thought were “very interesting and enlightening.”

“There is a great deal of [Chinese] history and art and artistic expression that was lost, and that’s unfortunate,” said Dr. Barkley.

“The Whole Experience Was Magical!” Says Teacher

Also attending the show was Ryan Timmons, a middle and high school teacher, who brought his wife Rebecca to the show.

Mrs. Timmons said the performance was “visually stunning and the costumes were extraordinarily beautiful.”

Mr. Timmons talked about how the costumes and choreography complimented each other.

“I like how the costumes were part of the dancing, like the sleeves and the scarves. It was really amazing that they could use that to tell the stories that they were trying to do with the dance,” he said.

Mrs. Timmons agreed. “It gave me an appreciation for how complex the Chinese culture is and how many years the civilization has been around. It was very humbling.

“Everything was just synchronized so beautifully and they made it look effortless, just the way they were dancing.”

Mr. Timmons liked the blending of Western and Eastern culture, noting “The different instruments were neat to hear and see.”

“Looking down [from where we were seated] and seeing the instruments being played—the gong and the percussion and everything—it was great,” Mrs. Timmons exclaimed.

Mrs. Timmons concluded, “It was just a masterpiece. The costumes were so stunning and the dancing was just so beautiful.

“The whole experience was magical!”

“Everything Is Inspiration” Says Singer Josey Contreras

Singer Josey Contreras shed tears at the Shen Yun Performing Arts show, saying, “It was just beautiful, mesmerizing. It stirred beautiful emotions in me.”

Ms. Contreras continued. “I probably cried a couple of times because of how beautiful just the music is, and the lyrics as well, even though it was sung in Chinese. It was beautiful, beautiful. You could still feel the emotion.”

The solo vocalists perform original compositions in bel canto style, in Chinese, with the words projected on a digital backdrop in both Chinese and English.

“I think it tells me about life, a deeper meaning of it,” Ms. Contreras said of the lyrics, “And I think that’s what’s beautiful, is that Shen Yun brings that deeper meaning into life. It questions it and it questions why are we here, why do we do things when there is something bigger and beyond.”

The singer especially enjoyed the dance set, Sewing the Flowers of Heaven, which she said “truly showed a part of heaven—just a part of heaven.”

“Everything is inspiration, it is just so beautiful, and it was my first time, so I’m definitely coming back next year,” Ms. Contreras concluded.

Shen Yun “Very Touching,” Says Artist

Laurie Brown attended Shen Yun Performing Arts in Dallas at the Winspear Opera House with her family on Jan. 2.

Ms. Laurie Brown, an artist, jewelry designer, and perfume maker, described Shen Yun as “Artistically, the integrity was beautiful.”

Ms. Brown, who had majored in theater, said “The composition of the stage was beautiful,” adding, “I thought the show was visually beautiful, I thought that the talent was there, the dancers were really good.”

Ms. Brown was mesmerized by the costumes, saying, they “were beautiful!”

She talked about how the “star speckled” skirts of the female dancers in the dance set Phoenix Fairies, caught her attention.

“I love the way the color variegated on the clothes, where it was darker on the bottom and went lighter, lighter, lighter, and the combination of sparkles—the sparkles on the back with the straightness of the skirt. It was beautiful visually when they were moving. They really caught the light well.”

Ms. Brown was very touched by the performance, An Unexpected Encounter, in which tourists visiting China stumble upon the persecution of the spiritual faith Falun Dafa. The spiritual practice, like other things embedded with traditional Chinese values, is not permitted under China’s current regime.

“I almost cried, because it was very meaningful to me. It was very real,” Ms. Brown said. “I thought it told a very touching story of how the artists in [China] have to leave to express themselves.

“It says to me that the Chinese people are not the Chinese government,” adding, “It’s time for the people who are correct-thinking, with balance, honesty, truthfulness, responsibility, kindness, empathy—all of those things that I believe in.”

School Teacher Mr. Wang Linkai Sentenced to One Year of Forced Labor for Because of a Poem Posted on His Door

January 12, 2013 | By a Minghui correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) Mr. Wang Linkai, an elementary school teacher, posted a poem on the front door of his home in Wafangdian City, Dalian City, during the 2012 Chinese New Year. The characters on the poem read:

“The Sun and Moon Illuminate Heaven and Earth with Auspicious Light, Heaven and Earth are Bright Again with Favorable Circumstances.”

Officers from Wafangdian City Police Department arrested Mr. Wang Linkai on July 6, 2012, while he was in school. Mr. Wang’s mother also saw some police officers climb over their wall and enter Mr. Wang’s home. They forcibly took away a computer, MP3 player and other personal belongings.

After Mr. Wang was taken to Wafangdian City Detention Center, the police examined the items taken from his home, but they could not find evidence that they could use to incriminate Mr. Wang. They then targeted the poem posted on the door of Mr. Wang’s home. The police claimed that the content of the poem disturbed the social order, and then sentenced Mr. Wang to one year in a forced labor camp.

Mr. Wang’s family has hired a lawyer for his appeal.

Ms. Chen Shulan from Beijing Illegally Detained Again after Eight Years of Imprisonment

January 12, 2013 | By a Minghui correspondent from Beijing

(Minghui.org) Ms. Chen Shulan from Beijing was once again illegally arrested and taken to the Changping Detention Center on December 16, 2012. All seven members of Ms. Chen’s family practiced Falun Gong, but five of them have lost their lives as a result of the brutal persecution over the past more than 13 years.

Ms. Chen Shulan

Ms. Chen’s younger brother, Chen Aizhong, was tortured to death in Hehuakeng Forced Labor Camp in Tangshan City on September 20, 2001. Ms. Chen’s younger sister, Chen Hongping, had her legs broken when guards at the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp beat. She was tortured to death on March 5, 2003. Ms. Chen’s other brother, Chen Aili, ended up in critical condition after being tortured in Jidong Prison in Fengnan County, Tangshan City. He died on November 5, 2004.

Ms. Chen’s parents lived away from home to avoid the persecution. Her mother Wang Lianrong died on August 4, 2005. Her father, Chen Yunchuan, went to Beijing Women’s Prison in the fall of 2007 to visit his daughter. The guards denied him entry, supposedly because he didn’t have his identification card with him. He was not even allowed to leave his daughter any clothes or money. He later died in a car accident.

For more details about the persecution of the Chen family, please read:
“Long-Term, Bloody Persecution Reduces a Seven-Member Family to Two”http://en.minghui.org/emh/articles/2009/6/9/108135.html

Ms. Chen Shulan’s daughter, Li Ying, was only 10 years old when her mother was illegally sentenced to seven and a half years in prison in 2002. These are things a child that age should not have to endure. Ms. Chen’s family only wanted to tell people that Falun Dafa is great, but they were torn apart due to the CCP persecution.

Ms. Chen was released from prison in 2010. After numerous trials and tribulations, she was finally reunited with her daughter, who had been missing for almost eight years.

Ms. Chen does not bear a grudge against the CCP agents for the crimes they committed against her and her family, but continues to tell people, “It’s really great to practice Falun Gong.” She has now been arrested again and is being held at the Changping Detention Center.
