Spain: Practitioners Celebrate World Falun Dafa Day (Photos)

(Minghui.org) On May 11, 2013, Falun Gong practitioners held activities at the Plaza de Callao in the center of Madrid, Spain, to celebrate the 14th annual World Falun Dafa Day and the 21st anniversary of Falun Dafa’s spread throughout the world.

The World Falun Dafa Day falls on May 13 each year, coinciding with the birthday of Master Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Dafa.

Practitioners gathered in front of the banners that read “Wishing Benevolent and Revered Master a Happy Birthday” and “World Falun Dafa Day” for a group photo to wish Master Li a happy birthday. They also took this opportunity to express their gratitude to Master Li.

Practitioners demonstrate the Falun Gong exercises to the public.

Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, was first introduced to the public by Mr. Li Hongzhi on May 13, 1992, in China. It is currently practiced in over 100 countries around the world by people of all nationalities and races.

In July 1999, the Chinese regime launched a brutal campaign to suppress Falun Gong, when the number of practitioners exceeded the number of Communist Party members. The gruesome persecution has continued to this day.

Many people stopped by the practitioners’ table at Plaza de Callao to voice their support and sign a petition to demand the end of the persecution in China.

Spanish people eagerly sign the petition calling for the end of the persecution of Falun Gong in China.

The celebration began around 5 p.m., under the blue skies and plenty of sunshine. Falun Gong practitioners from all over Spain came together at Plaza de Callao, located on Gran Vía, the most popular high-end shopping street in Madrid. This area is packed with tourists and locals all year round, and especially in the spring and summer.

Practitioners dressed in yellow demonstrated the five sets of meditative Falun Gong exercises in the middle of the plaza, with big banners reading “Falun Dafa is Good” and “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance” in front. When the peaceful music accompanying the exercises began to play, the crowd of passers-by slowed down, and many people stopped to watch. Many tourists took pictures and recorded videos. People gladly accepted informational flyers from practitioners, eager to learn more about the practice.

A tourist from Shanghai, China, said he was really excited to see so many people practicing Falun Gong. He said he knew that Falun Dafa is great as his grandmother and aunt are practitioners. His grandmother is 93 years old but is still very healthy, he added, attributing that to her practice. He filmed some footage of Falun Gong practitioners doing the exercises together and collecting signatures to stop the persecution, saying that he would show it to his family and friends back home.

Practitioners also displayed large boards with information about Falun Dafa, as well as posters showing the torture methods used by the communist regime to persecute Falun Gong practitioners in China. After the exercise demonstration, practitioners took the time to clarify the facts about the persecution to passers-by, distributing leaflets and collecting petition signatures to stop the persecution.

Lawyer Carlos Iglesias is the plaintiff counsel for lawsuit against Jiang Zemin, the former head of the Chinese Communist Party Jiang Zemin who launched the persecution in 1999. Mr. Iglesias called on people to uphold fundamental human rights and help stop this unjust persecution of Falun Gong.

One Spanish woman, in her 60s, expressed her respect toward Falun Gong practitioners after signing the petition. When human rights are trampled, we need people to stand up and speak out for the victims, she said, adding that she admired the courage of Falun Gong practitioners.

Another elderly Spanish woman could not help but cry when signing the petition. Before she left, she hugged the Falun Gong practitioners at the petition table and thanked them for their efforts.

An overseas Chinese student stopped to study the posters. When a practitioner went over to give him an informational DVD, he smiled and said: “Thank you! I have seen all these. I know about the staged self-immolation hoax at Tiananmen Square [concocted by the Chinese regime to defame Falun Dafa]. You’d better save this for other Chinese people who haven’t seen it yet.”

When asked if he had withdrawn from the Chinese Communist Party and its affiliated youth leagues, as to symbolically separate himself from the crimes of the regime, the young man said: “I’ve already done it online, as the Internet is not censored here abroad. In addition, I’ve persuaded my parents to quit the Party, too.”

Before he left, he told practitioners: “Give it all you’ve got and keep up the great efforts!”

Zhao Yu and His Family of Ten from Inner Mongolia Persecuted

May 28, 2013 | By a Minghui correspondent from Inner Mongolia

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhao Yu, from Bairin Zuoqi, Chifeng City in Inner Mongolia, and his wife Zhang Guizhi have been arrested twice. Their home was ransacked, they were detained, and tortured by police officers. Their four daughters, Zhao Guirong, Zhao Fuxia, Zhao Chunxia, and Zhao Chunhua were also subjected to persecution of varying degrees.

Zhao Chunxia’s husband Jia Bin was forced to leave home in order to avoid further persecution. He was arrested on December 21, 2012, while installing a satellite dish for NTDTV, which is banned in China, for a villager in Aohanqi District. On February 8, 2013, police officers took Jia Bin to the detention center in his hometown for extended custody. These officers included Li Hongzhu and Tian Licheng from the Bairin Zuoqi Police Department. The police threatened to break up his family. Zhao Chunxia’s three adolescent children wore slogans with the words, “I want my mother, I want to eat,” and held large signs carrying the message, “My mother was arrested by the police for practicing Falun Gong, my father has gone into hiding to avoid being arrested, the money in our house was looted, and we are homeless.” The three children were once detained by police and released only after a strong contention from relatives.

1. Harassed, Home Ransacked, Arrested, and Money Extorted

Six to seven officers including Ba Gen, head of the Bairin Youqi Domestic Security Division, as well as Chen Hongjiu, Wang Chenglin, and Da Lai, broke into Zhao Yu’s house on February 16, 2002 at around 10:00 a.m. When they saw Falun Gong exercise tapes in the house, they went back to the police station to get search warrants, then ransacked the house. Zhao Yu was at home reading at the time. The police snatched the book Zhuan Falun from his hands. He was so anxious that he cried and pleaded with them not to take away the book. However, the officers ignored his plea and confiscated all of his Dafa books, two portraits of the founder of Falun Gong, two posters of the Falun emblem, and other belongings. They took him and his wife Zhang Guizhi to the Bairin Youqi Police Department.

Zhao Yu was detained for one day and one night, and Zhang Guizhi was transferred to the Bairin Youqi Detention Center, after spending one day in the police department. She was released after 21 days of detention and extorted of 1000 yuan.

2. Beaten and Tortured

One morning in May, four to five officers from the Bairin Youqi Domestic Security Division, including head Zhang Haitao, Chen Hongjiu, and Da Lai, forced their way into practitioner Zhao Guirong’s (Zhao Yu’s eldest daughter) house in Daban Town, Bairin Youqi. They ransacked the house and confiscated many Falun Gong books as well as over 50 copies of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. After that, they took Zhang Guizhi and Zhao Guirong back to the police department.

When Zhao Yu returned home in the afternoon, the police were waiting to arrest him outside the main entrance. They also arrested his father, and took them to the police department. That night, Chen Hongjiu and several other officers interrogated Zhao Yu. They wanted him to provide names of acquaintances, and those whom he had contact with. When he refused to divulge any information, an officer slapped him more than twenty times in the face.

At the police department that afternoon, an officer pulled out Zhang Guizhi’s hair, strand by strand. Another officer came over and scolded her for quite some time. She was taken to another room that night and made to stand for the entire night with both legs tightly closed together. Whenever there was a gap between her legs, an officer kicked her. She was later sent to a labor camp for one year and nine months.

3. Persecution Suffered by Four Daughters

Zhao Yu and Zhang Guizhi’s four daughters were subjected to varying degrees of persecution, including heavy prison sentences. Their two son-in-laws, Jia Bin and Wu Jingang, were also incarcerated.

(a) Zhao Guirong Arrested Three Times, Her House Ransacked, Sent to Labor Camp, and Imprisoned

Zhao Guirong was arrested in 2002. Her house was ransacked, and during the subsequent two years, she and her family were harassed countless times.

In early May 2005, Zhao Guirong was arrested again by officers from Bairin Youqi. Her house was ransacked and she was sent to a labor camp for one year and nine months.

Zhao Guirong was arrested again on April 6, 2010, while handing out Falun Gong brochures to people. Her house was ransacked and she was secretly sentenced to a seven-year prison term by the Bairin Youqi court. She is currently still incarcerated at the No. 1 Women’s Prison in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia.

(b) Zhao Fuxia Arrested, Detained, and Beaten

Zhao Fuxia’s house was ransacked on June 4, 2002. She was arrested, beaten, detained, and tortured with various instruments for an entire day. On December 11, 2012, she was surrounded and beaten on the street by five officials from the Bairin Zuoqi court for trying to rescue her younger sister. The officials dragged and abused her.

(c) Zhao Chunhua and Her Husband Unjustly Imprisoned

Zhao Chunhua’s husband Wu Jingang was arrested at home by police officers from Bairin Zuoqi on June 6, 2012 at around 7:00 p.m. At around 1:00 a.m., officers drove him to the Bairin Zuoqi No. 2 Hospital and tried to perform a blood test on him. They stopped when Wu Jingang demanded to know why they wanted to draw blood from him even though he was healthy. He was sent to the Bairin Zuoqi Detention Center and detained for 15 days.

Zhao Chunhua was reported on January 30, 2013, while distributing calendars containing messages about Falun Gong. She was apprehended and detained at the Tianshan Detention Center in Ar Hoqin, Chifeng City for ten days.

(d) The Couple Zhao Chunxia and Jia Bin Severely Persecuted

On February 16, 2002, at around 10:00 p.m., Jia Bin and Zhoa Chunxia’s house was turned inside out by police officers from Bairin Youqi. Jia Bin was arrested and detained for two days, and the police extorted 400 yuan.

Gao Yanguo from the Bairin Zuoqi 610 Office, along with Tian Licheng, head of the Domestic Security Division, and others, arrested Zhao Chunxia on June 4, 2012. They failed to arrest Jia Bin who was forced to leave home. The police looted 14,000 yuan, which was all the money they had left. Their three children at home had no money to live on and had to leave their apartment. They moved into Zhao Chunxia’s elder sister’s home. While leaving their home, the children cried, “Our parents are not around and our family is broken up.” Everyone present were sad to hear these words.

Zhao Chunxia’s three children tried to rescue their mother on the morning of August 14, 2012. They wore slogans with the words, “We want our mother, we want food,” and held large signs carrying the message, “Our mother was arrested for practicing Falun Gong and we don’t know where our father is. The money in our house was looted and we have no home to return to.” They walked to the Bairin Zuoqi government building, along the busiest streets in Lindong Town, Bairin Zuoqi. When they tried to enter the building, officials from the Bairin Zouqi 610 Office, Tian Licheng, head of the Domestic Security Division, political head Li Hongzhu, Gao Shujun, and others lead more than thirty police officers to surround the children. They dragged them into the building and locked them in the office without food and water. The three children were released at around 5:00 p.m., after strong requests made by their uncle.

Jia Bin wandered around from place to place and was arrested in Aohanqi on December 21, 2012 by police officers, while installing a satellite dish for a villager. He is currently detained at the Bairin Zuoqi Detention Center.

Over a month after Jia Bin’s arrest, Zhao Chunxia was released, after seven months and 21 days of detention. She was penniless and had to live in her elder sister’s already crowded house. While other families were celebrating the New Year, their family of eleven, young and old, had to live in a tiny apartment the size of less than ten square meters (about 107 square feet). Five children slept on two small beds, and the adults slept on the cement floor. Because they could not afford heat, it was very cold. The young and elderly cried. Those who saw their plight could not help but shed tears.

This is the persecution account of Zhao Yu, Zhang Guizhi, and their family of three generations, ten people. However, their experience is just one of many, who suffer from the Chinese Communist regime’s persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.

Head Nurse: Atrocities in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp Cannot be Denied

May 28, 2013 | By practitioner Wang Chunying

(Minghui.org) A comprehensive report on Masanjia Forced Labor Camp was published by Lens Magazine in China in April 2013, entitled “Walking Out of Masanjia.” The report exposed brutal torture and mistreatment of detainees at the labor camp, which is located in Shenyang, Liaoning Province. Soon afterwards, authorities in Liaoning Province organized an investigation team, and within a short period of time concluded that, predictably, the report was “seriously inconsistent with the facts.”

I was twice unlawfully detained at Masanjia Forced Labor Camp and I subjected to cruel persecution there. Four of the people interviewed by the author of “Walking out of Masanjia” were detained in the same team with me. In truth, the brutal torture suffered by Falun Gong practitioners is far worse than was exposed in the report published in Lens Magazine, and the bloody atrocities committed by Masanjia Forced Labor Camp cannot be denied.

My name is Wang Chunying. I am 59 years old, and a Falun Gong practitioner from Dalian City. Before I retired, I was a nurse unit manager of a hospital. I used to suffer from various diseases before I started practicing Falun Gong. I had chronic gastritis, colitis, arthritis, and chronic thyroiditis, which required lifelong medication in order to control my thyroid function. I lived my life in constant pain.

I began practicing Falun Gong in 1998. In just a few days, my physical ailments all disappeared, and I became healthy and happy. After the persecution of Falun Gong started in 1999, I was twice unlawfully detained at Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. The first time was between January 2002 and January 2005, and the second time was between August 2007 and November 2009, a total of five years and three months. I was subjected to severe persecution, including being deprived of sleep, beaten, stretched, hung by handcuffs, and forced to do hard labor.

The First Torture I was Subjected To – Diagonal Hanging

On the morning of December 29, 2007, the third month of my detention at Masanjia, I refused to sign a form required from all inmates, because the first item on the form was an admission of guilt. I practice Falun Gong in accordance with Falun Gong’s principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, to be a better person. My practicing is not a mistake. I did not commit any crimes, and I exercise the freedom of belief granted by China’s Constitution, so I refused to sign. Division head Zhang Chunguang and political head Li Mingyu, assistant Zhai Yanhui, and a total of six prison guards put me through a form of torture known as diagonal hanging. This is done by handcuffing both hands, one to the upper bunk of an iron bed, and the other to the lower bunk of another iron bed. In this way, a person can neither stand up nor squat down. The handcuffs are tightly fastened onto one’s wrists.

Torture reenactment: Diagonal hanging, a torture method employed on Falun Gong practitioners by guards at Masanjia Forced Labor Camp

Shenyang City weather is -17 or -18 C (around 0 F) in the winter, but I was sweating profusely with excruciating pain, and soon my hands swelled up and turned blackish purple.

While I was fastened to the beds, the guards kicked the beds hard with their feet so that my arms were stretched further. My body felt like it was being ripped apart. Every two or three hours, the guards shook my handcuffed hands to intensify the pain. I felt as if fistfuls of salt were being sprinkled on my open wounds.

During the entire time I was being tortured this way, the guards repeatedly urged me to sign the form. I refused, and the torture continued. The entire time I was not given a morsel of food or a drop of water, nor was I allowed to use the restroom.

I was released from the torture at 1:30 a.m. The following morning, I was hung up in the same way for 16 hours. My hands were swollen like risen dough, and the skin on my wrists was cut in many places by the handcuffs, and caked with dried blood.

The Second Time I was Tortured by Being Hung by Handcuffs

I was persecuted every month at Masanjia when I refused to sign the assessment form. Sometimes, the guards instigated a number of inmates to force me to sign the form, and my hands bled from being jabbed by the pen tip.

The second time I was subjected to torture was October 7, 2008, again for refusing to “admit my guilt” and sign the assessment form. This time Yang Jian, the current head of Masanjia Labor Camp, along with current division head Wang Yanpin, who is in charge of the overall operation of Masanjia, former division heads Zhang Chunguang and Li Mingyu, and two male guards, Peng Tao and Zhang Liang from the education section, put me through another form of torture known as hanging up.

Peng Tao and Zhang Liang handcuffed my hands tightly, wound up both my wrists with long pieces of cloth, and affixed my upper limbs to the head of the bed. They then stood at the foot of the bed, one on each side, and pulled at my feet. My whole body was stretched from the head of the bed to the end of the bed. They handcuffed my hands to the rail of the upper bed. The entire weight of my body was on my wrists.

At that point, a six-inch wide cloth was tightly wound around both my knees and feet. I was unable to move at all. My entire body felt as if it was being torn apart. Sweat poured forth uncontrollably. My clothes were dripping wet. I nearly lost consciousness. My hands and wrists soon turned purple. The ordeal lasted 23 hours. This torture was far worse than the previous one. The piercing pain is impossible to describe even if I were to exhaust all words in the human language.

2013-5-8-cmh-masanjia-02
Scars from the torture

A nurse appeared and tried to make me swallow some pills for heart attack, but I refused to open my mouth. The nurse pinched my nose and hit my mouth until I could not hold my breath any longer, and had to gasp for air. When I opened my mouth to breathe, the nurse swiftly stuffed nine pills into it.

Division head Wang Yanpin and evildoer Peng Songtao grabbed hold of my hair and slapped my face repeatedly. While hitting me, Wang Yanping said, “So, you also reported me on the Minghui website?” Much of my hair was pulled out. Just then, another officer came with pills for heart attack. He grabbed my nose to try to shove the pills into my mouth. Someone shouted, “Don’t do it. She was force-fed nine pills already.” The officer said, “That was close! I have nine more pills here.”

A little past 8 o’clock that evening, about 100 people from two different divisions went into a front room to fetch their bedding and get ready for bed. I called out, “Falun Dafa is good!” “Falun Dafa is the righteous way!” Former division heads Zhang Chunguang and Li Mingyu rushed over with some duct tape, yelling, “You still dare to call out Falun Dafa is good and dare to shout like this?” With that, they set about taping my mouth with yellow tape, five to six inches in width, and wrapped the tape several times around my head. My nose was flattened. It was very difficult to breathe. I was taped up like this until after 10:00 a.m. the next morning. When they pulled off the yellow tape, it came off with my hair stuck to it. Both my nose and mouth were bleeding.

From time to time, the guards shook the handcuffs, which were cutting into my wrists. The skin around my wrists was all torn up. This went on until 2:30 p.m. on October 8, for a total of 23 hours. During those 23 hours, the guards provided no food or water, nor would they allow me to use the bathroom. When the handcuffs were finally taken off, I had no feeling in my arms and hands. When I used the toilet, I couldn’t even use my hands to pull down my pants. The flesh around my wrists was all torn open and covered with dried blood. There were also a multitude of blisters of varying sizes.

The muscles on my upper limbs later atrophied and shrunk, like the arms of a child. Both my hands were also atrophied, the heel portions of my fingers became thin and remain tapered, and the black marks on my fingers are still very much visible.

Other practitioners were subjected to the same torture at the time, including Qi Zhenhong, Zhang Yinglin, Lu Lin, Zhong Shujuan, and Yan Junhua. The torture inflicted on Qi Zhenhong made her mentally disordered right then. As to Zhang Yinglin, after several days, her arms were fractured from the extreme force the guards exerted on her to force her to sign her name on a piece of paper.

Forced Blood Test–Possible Preparation for Organ Harvesting

On May 12, 2008, about 200 people, including Falun Gong practitioners and detainees from Divisions 1 and 2, were given blood tests. Overseas media had previously exposed the crimes of systematic organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners on March 8, 2006, so I knew that blood tests were conducted to prepare for organ transplants. Because I refused to have my blood tested, several guards stepped forward to pull me over. I held tightly to the door handle, struggling with all my might, but was finally overcome by nine guards, including the two male guards from Masanjia Hospital who were there to draw blood. I was forced down onto the bed. I could not move a muscle, so I called out, “Falun Dafa is good! Persecuting Dafa disciples is a crime!”

Wang Yanping grabbed a pillow and held it over my face. Suddenly, everything went dark, and I was unable to come up for air. I desperately shook my head from side to side and my head hit the wall. I somehow found a little breathing gap between the pillow and the wall, and narrowly escaped death by suffocation.

That was how the guards succeeded in drawing 5 milliliters of my blood. I had 30 years of nursing experience and knew that they only needed 2 milliliters of blood for testing liver and kidney functions. Clearly they also wanted to test for other purposes.

I have spent 30 years in the nursing profession. I have done biochemical tests, and I know that for liver function and kidney function tests, only 2 milliliters of blood is needed. They drew 5 milliliters.

Xin Shuhua, a practitioner from Benxi, was imprisoned with me at Masanjia. She too was tortured repeatedly between 2002 and 2004 for remaining steadfast in her belief. Masanjia’s political commissar Wang Naimin said to her, “Aren’t you practicing being compassionate? So be compassionate and donate your heart.” To which Xin Shuhua replied, “I would need to be alive in order to practice.” Wang Naimin answered, “It’s not up to you. I will send you off to Sujiatun.” Sujiatun is the name of a hospital believed to be one place where a large number of organs from Falun Gong practitioners were harvested.

Wang Naimin then promptly gave Sujiatun Hospital a call. The hospital said it would do a pick-up at 9 o’clock that evening, and would send over a vehicle. But no vehicles showed up. The next day, Wang Naimin called the hospital again. An afternoon pick-up was scheduled, and again it was a no show. The same thing happened the third day. Finally, Wang Naimin couldn’t do anything and let the matter drop.

With me was also Wei Yanhua, a practitioner from Tieling, who knew a lot about the persecution behind the scenes. Wang Naimin told her, “For someone like you, we’ve got to send you to Sujiatun.” One night in 2005, Wei Yanhua was taken away by several male officers and was never heard from again.

The various forms of torture to which I was subjected at Masanjia represent but the tip of the iceberg of the persecution that Falun Gong practitioners are forced to endure.

I appeal to the international community to please initiate an independent investigation into Masanjia’s alleged crimes based on the evidence, and release the findings, so that all those involved in the persecution will be tracked down and brought to justice, so that all the injustices Falun Gong practitioners have undergone and are still undergoing at Masanjia can be redressed.
