Gangbei Prison Authorities: “He Will Not be Released for Medical Treatment Until He Is At Death’s Door”

(Minghui.org) According to a report by the Minghui website, Mr. Hua Lianyou, a Falun Gong practitioner from Tianjin, is in critical condition after an eight-month hunger strike to protest his arrest. A prison doctor has said that his internal organs are in a state of exhaustion, his condition is critical, and he could die at any time. When his family requested his immediate release, they were told, “He has to meet all of the official standards to be release for medical treatment. And that will not be considered until he is at death’s door.” When the family asked for a definition of the so-called “official standards,” the prison official evaded the question and simply turned the conversation to other topics.

This was not the first time such a statement has been made by Gangbei Prison authorities in Tianjin. Early last year, prison chief Li Guoyu stated the same conditions to the family of Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhou Xiangyang. His heart rate dropped to 40 beats per minute after he endured more than 300 days on a hunger strike to protest the cruel torture methods he was subjected to in the prison. Such an inhumane statement by the prison might sound unbelievable to the average person, but the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities have made it a common policy when dealing with Falun Gong practitioners. The victim’s families were told this repeatedly.

It is widely known that CCP officials who have been sentenced to prison for corruption can easily be released for medical treatment soon after being jailed. Prison authorities simply overlook “official standards.” But the authorities do not hesitate to enforce the “official standard” for innocent Falun Gong practitioners, even when they are at death’s door.

Mr. Hua is known as a joyful person with a warm and pleasant personality, who is always willing to give a hand to others who are in need of help. His wife, Ms. Tian Zongli, is also a Falun Gong practitioner. He recovered from a protrusion of the lumbar disc only three days after he began practicing Falun Gong.

Mr. Hua had been in two traffic accidents, and in one of them he broke one of the bones. He did not request any compensation from the driver, for which the driver was very grateful to Mr. Hua and Falun Dafa. The couple delivered newspapers to newspaper centers to make a living. They did their job very well and their employer was very happy with them. In 2001, their employers awarded them the title of “excellent employee.”

Mr. Hua was recognized as an excellent employee everywhere he worked during those years. After his latest arrest, his employer asked, “When will Old Hua be back to work?” Mr. Hua is a good person but the Chinese Communist regime has persecuted him, and even refused to release him when his internal organs were failing. This is a clear example of the nature of the CCP, which claims to “respect and safeguard human rights.”

This demonstrates the secret policies of Jiang Zemin, to “Defame their reputation, bankrupt them financially, and destroy them physically,” an act of genocide against practitioners of Falun Gong.

Many people might find it hard to believe that such a cruel persecution of Falun Gong practitioners exists in China. We have seen that the nature of the CCP constantly remains treacherous, inhumane, and cruel. To maintain its rule over China, the Chinese Communist regime will make illusive promises to gain the fancy of the people, but it will never change its course and be good.

We hereby ask people around the world to lend a helping hand so that Mr. Hua can be released and reunited with his family. We solemnly warn the officials who are involved in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners to be aware that they will certainly have to pay for what they have done. Karmic laws rule nature, and all people will ultimately have to pay for what they have done. Take the examples of Wang Lijun and Bo Xilai, who were both imprisoned during the fierce political infighting. We warn the perpetrators, whether they take caution for themselves or not, to at least be cautious for the future of their family. While there is still time, they are advised to stop persecuting innocent people.

Liang Dong and His Wife Luo Xiaojuan Unlawfully Sentenced, Subjected to Constant Monitoring in Guangdong

(Minghui.org) Mr. Liang Dong and his wife, Ms. Luo Xiaojuan, were illegally arrested on August 21, 2010. Mr. Liang was given a three-year sentence and Ms. Luo two years, suspended for three years. While residing at her mother’s, she is being monitored constantly. Since March 2013, departmental agents have been harassing her. In the middle of the night on April 5, someone entered her mother’s house and stole her personal phone book. Mr. Liang is being held and persecuted at the Sihui Jail.

Illegal Arrest

Mr. Liang Dong, 39, from Kunming, Yunnan Province, worked for the Guangdong Zhihong Information System Monitoring Company Limited of the Guangdong Province Information Center. Ms. Luo Xiaojuan, 31, is from the Haizhu District, Guangzhou. On the evening of August 21, 2010, the couple had dinner at a restaurant. As they left the restaurant, they were arrested by Yuexiu District Police Station officers.

That same evening, the police searched their home and took several computers, electronic books, Dafa books, and other materials. The next day, the couple were taken to the Yuexiu District Detention Center. They refused to cooperate and kept clarifying the truth to the police and the prisoners.

Unlawful Sentence

The authorities defamed the couple, saying they had Falun Gong materials and that they were “very stubborn.” They did what they could to ensure the couple got long sentences. Eventually the Yuexiu District Court sentenced Mr. Liang to three years and Ms. Luo to two years, suspended for three years. Ms. Luo Xiaojuan was charged with having Dafa materials on her, and the couple with having Dafa materials and books at home.

The day before their court appearance, the court demanded that Ms. Luo’s mother write a guarantee letter before they agreed to release her. They day they appeared in court, Ms. Luo was released on bail.

Strict Surveillance

In the detention center for over a year, Ms. Luo was severely persecuted mentally, and when she returned home, she was very confused. In fact, she could hardly recall which direction to go to get to her residence. It took a long time for her to return to normal.

Even then, the authorities did not stop persecuting her and her family and kept her under constant surveillance. When the appeal results were announced, the Haizhu Judicial Bureau made it difficult for her and said that because she was a “suspended individual,” the Judicial Office of the Xingangjie of the Haizhu Police Department had to “accept and supervise” her. The Judicial Office of the Xingangjie Neighborhood Office was afraid “something might happen to her” during the time she would have to serve her suspended sentence, which they would have to shoulder, so they did not want to “accept” her.

Song Yanbo, the police officer directly responsible for this case, deceived Luo Xiaojuan and her mother, saying that since Ms. Luo did not live where she was officially registered (she was then living at her mother’s in Dali County, Nanhai District, Foshan), they needed proof of her residence. They asked her mother to provide a copy the deed to her house and to write a statement saying that Luo Xiaojuan resided there. Mother and daughter later learned from the Haizhu Judicial Bureau and lawyers that they were not required to do this. Song Yanbo had wanted Ms. Luo’s mother use her house as “guarantee” so that the police could go supervise them. Ms. Luo’s mother refused to provide a copy of the deed.

According to the Judicial Office of the Xingang Street Neighborhood Office, she had to report once every two months for the three years of her suspended sentence and to remain in the city. If she wanted to leave the city, she had to get permission. Also, she had to follow other rules related to a suspended sentence. For example, she was not allowed to cultivate Falun Dafa nor have contact with other practitioners, and she was not allowed freedom of speech. Without permission, she was not allowed to do media interviews, meet with foreigners, or give her address, etc. She was told that if she did not abide by these requirements, she would either be put in jail or her sentence would be lengthened – what is called “new and old crimes punished together.” The director threatened her, saying that if they could not contact her at any time within a month, they would report her to the court (and she would be put in jail).

The Xingang Judicial Office tapped her phone conversations with family and friends. They monitored her residence and followed her when she went out. Even her family members who did not reside with her were followed. When Luo Xiaojuan went out, the authorities went into her home and installed monitoring devices. They searched her home and stole personal property. They also monitored her bank account. Her mother’s small store in the neighborhood was monitored. They often told hooligans to go to her mother’s store to make trouble. Ms. Luo and her family could not endure such harassment anymore, so they moved back to Guangzhou. However, the authorities still did not stop persecuting her.

Their Three-year-old Son Devastated

When the couple were arrested, their son, Liang Jinfeng, was only three. Their arrest was a big blow to the little boy, and he was greatly harmed. He was sick and weak. His grandmother, who had no income, took care of him. Every day he cried for her to take him back to their old residence to look for his mom and dad. This once active and innocent child became silent and bad-tempered. He is no long willing to interact with anyone. In kindergarten, he often sits in a chair alone with tears in his eyes. When the teacher asks him what is wrong, he says he misses his mom and dad.

Recent Harassment

In March 2013, although it was not time for her to report to the police, the Judicial Office decided to go to Ms. Luo’s home to do a “family visit” to confirm her address.

Director Feng Qiupei and police officer Song Yanbo went to her home. They took out a camera to take her picture. After she refused to cooperate, they took out a copy of a “Thoughts Report” prepared in advance and told her to sign it. The director indicated that if she did not report to the authorities as required, did not follow the rules, and did not sign, they would report it to the court.

Ms. Luo said that, as government officials, they should treat people fairly. The director was very angry and threatened her again, saying that if she did not do as they said, they would report it to the court.

Recently, Luo Xiaojuan’s mother returned to reside in Dali, Nanhai in Foshan. On the evening on April 5, authorities broke into her mother’s residence when she and her family were asleep and stole her phonebook that she kept in her purse.

Mr. Liang Dong is still being held in Sihui Jail.

The Xingang Judicial Office, the Neighborhood Committee and police have often harassed Dafa practitioners in this area. They took the practitioners who refused to be “transformed” to the brainwashing center, and helped try to “transform” the practitioners themselves.

Celebrating the 14th Annual World Falun Dafa Day and Wishing Master Li a Happy Birthday

(Minghui.org) Every year in May, practitioners celebrate World Falun Dafa Day by hosting events in their communities and sending greetings to the founder of the practice, Master Li Hongzhi, via the Minghui website. May 13, 2013, marks the 21^st anniversary of Falun Dafa’s introduction to the public and the 14^th annual World Falun Dafa Day celebrations, as well as Master Li’s birthday.

Over the past 21 years, Falun Dafa has had a worldwide impact, reaching over 100 countries. An estimated 100 million people or more follow the practice and cultivate Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in their daily lives. However, in 1999 the Communist regime in China banned the peaceful meditation practice and has been persecuting and torturing its practitioners in labor camps and detention centers ever since.

Although practitioners in China cannot freely hold World Falun Dafa Day events in their communities as can those outside China due to the ongoing persecution, thousands have been able to break through China’s internet blockade to send their greetings of respect and reverence to Master Li at Minghui.org.

Minghui.org began publishing this year’s compilations of greetings on May 7 and hosts a special sub-site for the greetings at Greetings.minghui.org. Practitioners in China have sent in greetings from the cities of Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing, and Changchun—Master Li’s hometown.

Remembering When Master Purified My Body

(Minghui.org) It may be difficult to comprehend the assertion that “Falun Dafa is the Buddha Fa” using average reasoning. This was the case for me before I knew about Falun Gong. As a scientist, I was an absolute atheist, and I never let belief persuade me without seeing the truth with my own eyes. I never gave any thought to things like “Buddha Fa” or “cultivation,” because these concepts seemed irrelevant to my experimental work. I didn’t change my mind until I attended a Fa lecture given by Master, when in a sensible and miraculous way, he cleansed my illness-ridden body and freed me from my stubborn and dogmatic belief in empirical science. The essence of my life was then upgraded as I began following the path to return to my true self by practicing Falun Dafa.

A Misdiagnosis

One day when I was composing an experimental report, I was suddenly stricken by dizziness. I began to vomit, and was unable to write. At the hospital I was diagnosed with a cerebral hemorrhage. My condition worsened in the following years, and I was hospitalized many times. I had many CT scans, but there was no trace of blocked blood vessels, yet I was treated for stroke. Soon the condiditon deteriorated so badly that I could barely walk. The hospital then examined my cervical vertebrae with a CT scan and came to the conclusion that I had excess pressure on the cervical vertebrae canal. I was in need of serious surgery.

Odds Against Me

It would be an extremely difficult operation, both in terms of the surgical expertise required and the risk involved. The smallest mistake could damage the nerves and lead to paralysis. Deterred by such a risk, I thought I should seek other, safer treatment. But the doctor said, “Your condition is dire. Nothing but surgery can possibly help. Otherwise you are bound to end up paralyzed. You must do it, and as soon as possible.” The odds were against me, but I was left with no other choice. I had to agree to the surgery, because I was so afraid that my over-stressed vertebrae would deteriorate further.

Agonizing Surgery

On July 9, 1991, I had a major operation on my third to seventh vertebrae to release the pressure. The first and second vertebrae were left untouched, as they were too delicate and operating on them was potentially life-threatening. The surgeon was one of the best in the city. The operation lasted 7.5 hours and left a 15-cm-long incision. I had to crawl onto the operating table. With a drill, the doctor cut open the vertebrae in the back of my neck. He took bone from my hip and inserted pieces into the spaces between the vertebra that had been cut open. He then used stainless steel to wire it all together. I remained conscious with only a local anesthetic during the whole procedure. It is hard to imagine how much I suffered. I had to stay motionless in bed during the first seven days after the operation, while being given drugs day and night. Fifteen days later, the doctors encased my upper body, from my head to my chest, in a plaster cast for three months. During that time, I could not get out of bed without help.

The surgery released the pressure on my spine. I rejoiced that I had made the right choice to risk the operation, but then I started to experience all kinds of side effects. My neck, shoulders, and back, which used to be fine, now felt compressed and began to hurt. I had an MRI that showed I had spinal displacement and protrusion caused by the surgery. The old problem was gone, but I was doomed to suffer a new one. It became routine for me to be hospitalized, until I was finally completely overwhelmed after I caught a serious cold. I was too feeble to go to the hospital, so my doctor had to see me at home. I tried all available therapies but to no avail. I was bedridden and could not find a way to free myself. I was desperate.

Master Created a Miracle

I was fortunate to attend the first Fa lecture given by Master in Dalian City, Liaoning Province. I will never forget that day.

The lecture was on March 27, 1994. My husband carried me on his back from our home on the third floor to a car that he had rented from his employer. When we arrived at the gate of the hall where the Fa lecture was to be given, he carried me inside to the first row closest to the lecture platform. He then put me in a deckchair that he had brought with him. I lay stiffly in the chair, wearing a big coat, with a blanket covering me and a scarf around my neck. I appeared as a gravely ill patient, and before the lecture began, the staff at the lecture hall and some people from the Qigong Association of Dalian City came to ask me to leave and return the entrance ticket. I later realized that Master had asked them to talk to me. The Falun Gong lecture was supposed to teach people how to cultivate, not to cure diseases, so seriously ill patients were not allowed to attend the course.

We were anxious to hear the lecture. My husband hopped onto the lecture platform, where he found Master, and explained my condition to him. He said, “We are not here to get cured. We began reading your books and listening to your audio Fa lectures two weeks ago. We are here to learn Falun Gong.” Master said, “This practitioner has good enlightenment quality. Let me have a look at her.”

Master came over to me, and I stood up. He asked me to sit down while patting me twice on my neck and the top of my head. He then did something to cleanse my shoulders and arms. After that he told me to stand up and walk. When I walked to the front center of the stage, he further gestured to cleanse my legs. The whole process took less than two minutes. I then walked back and forth twice in front of the stage, and all the attendees began applauding for me. When I returned to my seat, some attendees from Beijing beside me said, “You are so lucky. We have attended Master’s Fa lectures several times but have never seen him cleanse anyone’s body personally.” I said, “I never expected that he would cleanse me himself. Truly, I am so lucky. I am so happy!”

As we were learning the exercises after the Fa lecture, Master came over to me and asked in his amiable tone, “Do you find your neck easier to move now, as if it had been lubricated with oil?” I said, “Yes, it is.” He said, “You actually did not need to go through that operation after which you suffered so much. If you had practiced Falun Gong earlier, you would have recovered long ago.”

When the lecture was over, my husband was about to carry me home. I stood up and found that my legs felt quite relieved, so I left the hall on my own two feet. When we were at the gate of the building where we lived, he was about to carry me upstairs. I said, “You don’t need to do that. I can now walk on my own.” I then walked upstairs to our apartment on the third floor. It had all happened so unexpectedly that I could not believe it was true. It was so miraculous. Master is so amazing! My condition, which had stumped modern medicine, was removed by Master in a matter of minutes. It was truly a miracle, an incredible miracle. Falun Dafa is a true science, a science that transcends the mundane world!

In his Fa lectures, in his plain, understandable words, Master taught us the most profound principle of the cosmos, the Buddha Fa that we had never heard of before. My life became meaningful from that point on. I was returning to my true self by cultivating in Falun Dafa. From the dust of the mundane world would rise the cosmic quintessence that is forged by Falun Dafa according to its universal principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Absorbed by his teachings, I came to understand that Master had cleansed my physical body to pave the way for my genuine cultivation. That is when I began my cultivation in Falun Dafa. I remained firm in the practice, never budging.

Eighteen years have elapsed, as if in an instant. Had it not been for Master and Falun Dafa, I might have already perished in abject suffering. That day when Master cleansed me was so memorable that I could paint it in my brain vividly even eighteen years later. My story spread among the public rapidly and aroused quite an enthusiastic response locally. Many people learned from my story that Falun Dafa was a righteous way, and they began practicing Falun Gong.

Thank you again, Master, for your compassionate salvation.
